Campfire Simulator
A night in the woods in VR. Build a campfire from tinder, kindling and logs, strike sparks from two rocks, and keep it burning.
What's in it
- A clearing in a pine forest at night, under a real star map and the Milky Way.
- A fire that burns the way fires do: it needs dry tinder, air and the right size of wood, and wet wood fights it.
- Sparks struck from two rocks, an axe for felling trees and splitting wood, and armloads of logs to carry.
- Cooking on roasting sticks, tea in a billy on the grill, and water from a spring to put the fire out.
- Rain showers, a tent, a lantern, a head torch, a guitar, owls, a fox and a stag.
How to play
- Move with the left thumbstick. Turn with the right thumbstick.
- Pick things up with the grip button (the trigger works too). Let go to drop.
- Light the fire: put tinder down, swing one rock fast past the other just over it to throw sparks, and when it starts to smoulder, hold X to blow on it (or fan it with your hand).
- Feed it kindling first, then sticks, then logs. The axe and the rocks are on the chopping stump by the woodpile.
- A jumps, B sits you back down on the log, and a tap of Y (or clicking a thumbstick) switches the head torch on and off.
- Hold Y until it buzzes for the camp menu: rain, a comfort vignette, difficulty, how to play, restart and credits. Hold it again to close it.
- A sign by your seat explains everything else, in the game.

The stars
The bright stars are from the Yale Bright Star Catalogue (5th revised edition, Hoffleit and Warren, 1991), from NASA's Astronomical Data Center, public domain. Their colours use the temperature formula by Ballesteros (2012) and the eye's colour-matching curves as fitted by Wyman, Sloan and Shirley (2013). The fainter stars and the Milky Way are made for the game.
